At first it seemed to be only a rumor, and has always been denied by the Chinese Volvo owners of Geely. But now there's the official announcement from Sweden. "How in the Rally Dakar 2012 in South America with two prototypes of the XC60 Go Home", proclaimed the Scandinavian automaker.

However, the cars are not officially supported with a factory team, but driven by a private Swedish racing. More exactly the team Pewano stands behind the project, that were active previously only in the tour vehicle sport and in automobile Rallyes. Team manager for the intention becomes the Swedish navigator legend Tina Thorner. 

Moreover, in conversation and on the wish list of Sweden, the German Jutta Kleinschmidt, the only woman who won ever the Rallye Dakar in the entire evaluation. Thorner and Kleinschmidt were already a successful racing team in the X-Raid. Perhaps the dream becomes was for the Sweden once again.
