Hyundai introduced its new Hyundai Sonata 2011-2009 Los Angeles Auto Show. This marked the U.S. debut of the latest version of the popular midsize sedan, the introduction of "Hyundai tire Sculpture" design language and a lineup of four cylinders for the U.S. market.
Hyundai Sonata is the second vehicle in the Hyundai version 24 / 7 2.0 product initiative (seven new models in the next 24 months) following the steps of the new Tucson. Hyundai Sonata production will begin in December 2009 at the Hyundai plant in Alabama, USA, with retail sales in January 2010. The 2011 Sonata is a modern approach to segment the traditional mid-size sedan using advanced only four-cylinder engines, the emotional design and luxury features that offers strong value proposition with Hyundai. The 2011 Hyundai Sonata raises some intriguing questions: Why can not a sleek sedan also solid modern, elegant and sophisticated style? Why pay so much to get a taste of luxury? Why not an efficient four-cylinder V6 engine to power?
Tire SCULPTURE DESIGN LANGUAGE Starting with the 2011 Sonata and 2010 projects Tucson, Hyundai's designers went to work about three and a half years in tire Sculpture. The sculpture is a tire consistent design language of cohesion that is felt throughout the entire Hyundai showroom. In the development of the first sketches Hyundai Sonata, Hyundai designers considers the interaction of natural resources, the fluid elements with more hard surfaces and structures to create the illusion of constant movement. Inspired by nature, sophistication and injected Sculpture tire dynamic angles in the form of a vehicle and now serves as a core design identity of the future of Hyundai. The exterior of the all-new Hyundai Sonata is a long, light and low. The high waistline allows a roof long, elegant accentuated by the third window. A side profile monoform includes flowing lines highlighted by a signature chrome covers Hyundai Accent car length. Typically, this type of setting is only around the windows. In the new Hyundai Sonata, this setting extends from the headlights, is projected along the hood and waist line. The face is bold with a big chrome grille and headlights powerful that integrate precise details. The position is full with 16 -, 17 - or 18-inch multi-spoke wheels. Touch of sophistication continues inside, where Hyundai has created an atmosphere of luxury, thanks to a flow through center console and instrument panel. These smooth surfaces complement the exterior design and wraps around the driver and passengers. HYUNDAI packing efficiency The elegant design, combined with Hyundai's expertise in interior packaging, have produced an interior that offers class-leading comfort, functionality and practicality. A sleek roofline compromises usually space volume for the head and the interior, but at 120.2 meters cubic, the Hyundai Sonata has the largest interior volume of its main competitors. It is so broad, the Hyundai Sonata remains classified by the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) as a big car, a true "class above" Camry, Altima, Fusion and Malibu (all are categorized as midsize cars). Even in trunk room, the Hyundai Sonata shines. Sonata 16.4 cu. square of trunk space gives an advantage of 9.3 percent over the Camry, and a lead of 17.1 percent agreed. The new Sonata will begin with the new Hyundai GDI Theta II 2.4-liter four-cylinder gasoline engine with direct injection (GDI) of the fuel supply system, which contributes to improved fuel efficiency and lower emissions. Hyundai Sonata is the first midsize sedan to take GDI technology as standard equipment in an atmospheric Powertain. This short, the most direct route for fuel delivery, enables better control of the fuel mixture at the optimum time, thus improving efficiency. The fuel is injected by a camshaft-driven, high-pressure pump operating at pressures up to 2175 psi. Direct injection also uses a higher than normal compression ratio of 11.3:1 for increased power. The Pistons are "plate" to increase the efficiency of combustion in the cylinder. This engine will deliver best-in-class fuel economy, best-in-class horsepower four-cylinder and best in class torque. Hyundai Sonata offers an impressive 23 mpg city/35 mpg highway * Estimated fuel consumption with available six-speed automatic transmission with SHIFTRONIC ®. (When equipped with six-speed manual, the Hyundai Sonata reaches an estimated 23 mpg city/34 mpg highway fuel economy rating). The horsepower and torque for the GDI preliminary Theta II are 198 horsepower and 184 lb-ft of torque. In the standard SE, which includes a standard twin exhaust, the engine delivers 200 horsepower. This high-tech, all-aluminum 16-valve features variable valve timing (CVVT) on both cams and a variable intake system (VIS) for better breathing engine. A version of this engine also meets Partial Zero Emission Vehicle (PZEV). Next year, Hyundai will add a 2.0-liter Theta II GDI turbo four-cylinder 2.4-liter Hybrid Drive Blue Lithium Hyundai model breakthrough polymer battery pack. Details of these power units will be announced at the 2010 New York Auto Show. The innovative segment Hyundai Sonata first line of the propulsion system is a key driver of the Hyundai goal to be the most fuel efficient cars on the planet. Automatic six-speed manual transmissions Hyundai's commitment to making the Hyundai Sonata remains extremely fuel efficient with a six-speed automatic transmission with manual control SHIFTRONIC or a six-speed manual transmission. Hyundai's six-speed automatic transaxle A6MF2 helps the company meet its goals of improving fuel efficiency and reduce emissions. The changes are silky smooth with a choice of manual control over the property SHIFTRONIC. Drivers can access the SHIFTRONIC feature by moving the gear selector into a separate. Pushing the selector forward or pulling it rearward will shift the transmission up or down sequentially, enhancing driver control. The SE will also include steering wheel-mounted paddle shift. A clear LCD readout on the instrument panel shows the gear that is used. Designed for transverse engine applications in cars and SUVs, transmission of the new covenant Hyundai put into an elite class of car manufacturers that have designed their own proprietary six-speed automatic transmission. The strength of the design is its unique design which makes it smaller, more compact and lighter than the other six-speed transmission on the market today. For customers, the new six-speed offers a performance advantage. In this application, aid makes a nine percent gain in fuel economy (35 mpg * versus 32 mpg). The gearbox does not stick, because it is full of automatic transmission fluid is good for the life of the vehicle in normal use, thereby reducing maintenance costs. Developed over a period of four years, this new six-speed automatic is 26.4 pounds lighter than the five-speed it replaces. Also is 1.6 inches shorter and much simpler, with less than 62 parts, which is a key to greater durability, less weight and less cost. When it comes to transmissions, more marches are definitely better. The addition of a sixth gear allows for more space between the gear ratios provide a better balance between performance and fuel economy and widespread global transmission ratio helps deliver a sharp acceleration. The gearbox has three planetary gearsets one flat torque converter that shortens the total length of 0.47-inch drive. Four different pinion improve durability and further minimize the size. Another example of engineering ingenuity lies in the design of the control unit of hydraulic pressure. Deviations from light manufacturing to a solenoid valve to the next sometimes cause fluctuations in hydraulic pressure and affect the accuracy and quality of change. The transmission appears in the Hyundai Sonata intelligently adjusting screws on the valves that allow each of the eight valves to be calibrated at the factory. This characteristic ensures stable hydraulic pressure at any point of change that facilitates a high degree of precision and control needed to deliver fast, smooth, precise changes in the entire rpm range. Supple RIDE, AGILE HANDLING An advanced four-wheel independent suspension system combines a fast movement with precise handling and steering response Hyundai Sonata GLS and Limited models. Sonata uses MacPherson front and multi-link rear suspension systems with the highest number of trips for steering control and improvement of a smoother ride. All four wheels are controlled by coil springs, gas, unalterable charged shocks and stabilizer bars. The suspension has been optimized to keep the vehicle flat during Corning and provide quick turn in response. Rear suspension has aluminum components to reduce weight and improve suspension performance. GLS and Limited models also use advanced low rolling resistance tires improve fuel economy and has good ride and handling performance. The Hyundai Sonata SE is a partner even more exciting and willing for drivers who prefer to travel and sportier driving dynamics. The sport suspension with stiffer springs and larger stabilizer bars, resulting in an increase of 20 percent in stiffness. Unique cushions, including monotube shocks at the rear used for controlling more aggressive suspension. Low profile 18-inch wheels complete the unique chassis components of the SE, Hyundai Sonata. All Sonatas are mounted on the column, with engine power steering that adjusts instantly to changing driving conditions while improving fuel economy in a conventional steering system. A quick-ratio steering rack is used to feel fresh turn-on. Hyundai Sonata turning circle of 35.8 meters is better than Camry, Accord, Altima, Fusion and Malibu. RATIO WORLD CLASS POWER RATIO-to-weight One of the objectives of the program for the 2011 Sonata's engineering team was world class power-to-weight ratio. Power-to-weight pays dividends in performance and fuel economy. Hyundai Sonata is rich in ultra-high strength steel, leading to world class body stiffness. The 2011 Hyundai Sonata is 25 percent stiffer in torsion and 19 percent stiffer in bending rigidity than its predecessor, however, is lighter than many midsize sedans, which also offers more interior room. This focus on power to weight ratio dividends paid by the Board. The Hyundai Sonata is its ability to provide both a strong performance and excellent fuel economy in large part to its impressive power to weight efficiency. Hyundai ADVANCED STANDARD SAFETY TECHNOLOGIES: part of Hyundai's commitment WARRANTY Hyundai Sonata is built from the ground up security, with a pattern structure of ultra-high strength steel body, advanced air bag technology, and Electronic Stability Control (ESC), fulfilling the commitment to asset Hyundai and passive safety technology leadership. The previous generation Hyundai Sonata is the first midsize sedan with standard ESC when it launched in March 2005. CES was not standard equipment on the Honda Accord, until model year 2008 and 2010 model year Toyota Camry. Once again, every 2011 Sonata has lifesaving ESC as standard equipment. This is important because the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) has reported that ESC results in 35 percent fewer accidents involving a single vehicle and 30 percent fewer fatalities in single-passenger vehicle. The Hyundai Sonata also features a state of the art package braking. The package includes four disc brakes and wheels Anti-lock Braking System (ABS), including Brake Assist, which provides maximum braking force when it senses a panic stop, and Electronic Brake Distribution (EBD) for automatically adjust the braking force front and rear axles based on vehicle loading conditions. Hyundai Sonata features six airbags, including dual front, front seat side impact and front and rear side curtain airbags front active headrests security. The 2011 Hyundai Sonata is expected to earn NHTSA's highest rating of five stars for frontal and side impacts. Other features of passive safety is of shingle-style rear seat head restraints for improved visibility, three-point seatbelts for all seats, front seat belts with pretension and force limiters safety, and a Lower Anchors and rear seat belts for children (LATCH) system for child seats.
